JAMAICA CUSTOMS RESPONDS TO CBFFAJ’s CAF CONCERNS The Jamaica Customs Agency (JCA) wishes to address the concerns being raised by the President of the Customs Brokers and Freight Forwarders Association of Jamaica (CBFFAJ), Ms. Jacqueline Cole; to provide clarity with regards to the recently implemented adjustment to the Customs Administration Fees (CAF), effective June 1, 2013. As recent as Friday, May 31, a meeting was convened with the presidents of the Jamaica Society of Customs Brokers (JSCB), the CBFFAJ and the Management Team of Jamaica Customs. All queries that were raised by the Brokers in that consultation were deemed as resolved. As a result, the JCA is disappointed at the remarks of Ms. Cole with regards to the “sector being in a state of confusion” as this was not voiced in the above mentioned session. With regards to concerns for the Manufacturing Industry; as agreed with the Jamaica Manufacturers Association (JMA), manufacturers have been given at least 50% discounted rates on raw materials to facilitate local productivity. Nevertheless, the JCA remains open to consultations with the Brokers and other stakeholders within the industry to have all issues resolved in the quickest possible time.
